Best things come in two!

How important is symmetry as a design element? OFC we all know that depends on the client's taste, but I often wonder, just doesn't it make the room flow much more coherently and harmoniously? Being a neat-freak myself, I feel as if symmetry can create a strong visual satisfaction; everything in pairs or even numbers, matching aesthetic, color duality, re-emphasizes the room's focal point.

Like this one below decorated by one of my favorite designers, Kelly Wearstler, the matching bookcases & lamps, subtle play of accessories & shade, suddenly the Louis XV style ebonized writing table & the gold-leafed mirror have never looked better.

People also say that those who adores symmetry are usually detail-oriented and anal in general. Maybe, but symmetry does take a lot of detailed work to complete an almost-flawless appearance. Like this one below, the mirrors look perfect on that wall flanking a center storage cabinet.

Symmetry isn't boring either, well unless if you make it to be. The trick is to accessorize cleverly. Here an eye-opening vibrant contemporary painting makes the seemingly dull interior as lively as it can be, the turquoise lamps are placed against the neutral furniture which can look tiresome alone.

Not-so-typical shopping day!

Surviving through the hot steamy summer, I just couldn't waste a day of gorgeous weather. Saturday, 75 degree, sunny and breezy, dialed the number to my buddy Diane, officially making it a girls' date!

After an hour long traffic we finally got to the outlet mall in Clinton, CT. I love this place because it has exclusive stores offering great deals, absolutely splendid environment to shop. So after a 5 hour shop-till-you-drop syndrome, we pretty much raided every store for the best they got. BCBG, Banana Republic, Michael Kors, Juicy Couture, & of course, Coach.

Finally we decided that we need to get hungry lol. We drove to New Haven and stopped in this restaurant called Kudeta, an Asian Fusion place that makes absolutely delicious sushi and Thai calamari (Good choice homie!). The atmosphere is phenomenal, long silk drapes hang from the ceiling, dining tables surrounded by vintage Chinese chairs, beautiful neon lights and glowing stars on the wall. Here Diane shows off her artsy side taking a great photo of us. Will post more of her photos later!

XOXO,

Bettie

Beloved Hippie-ism.

Just received the August catalog from Free People and I just can't love it more. The beautiful spreads feature a typical yet refreshing bohemian style for fall, full of feminine touches.

Lace, velvet, ruffles, pastel color, preppy plaids, intricate knits, bold details, and accessories like semi-precious stones and fringed scarves. My favorite? The ruffle-hem dark plaid maxi skirt. If you have a petite frame wear it as a tube dress and a boyfriend sweater over it.

Ready to break the bank girls? Don't forget to check out Jeffrey Campbell's fall collection, gotta always love Jeffrey. (If you don't own a pair of JC Brit boots from last season better get right on it, they will look great with everything. This year though, is all about clog-revival)
